Phenakite, smoky quartz

The Khetchel locality near Mogok in Burma is famous for its unique phenakite crystals. Due to the high degree of natural decomposition of the local pegmatite veins, the vast majority of phenakite crystals are found loose without a base. The uniqueness of this specimen therefore lies mainly in the matrix from which the completely transparent phenakite crystal grows. This elegant composition of translucent smoky quartz, light albite feldspar, and the aforementioned phenakite makes the specimen remarkable.
