Amethyst

Although quartz is a relatively common mineral on a global scale, all of its varieties are quite rare at the mineralogical sites in Mogok, Myanmar, and the surrounding area. The only occasional source of quartz specimens is the pegmatite veins in Sakangyi, from which this amethyst specimen also originates. Tiny amethyst crystals grow in the form of a crown on a crystal of common quartz.
