The charm of Dalnegorsk specimens sometimes lies in the combination of several generations of the same mineral. The crystal habit of different generations can vary radically. This specimen is a clear example of this. How different are the two generations of calcite present here, even though they are the same mineral! What caused the calcite to crystallize into a yellowish, frayed prism in one instance and a semi-transparent, elongated pink crystal in another? The crystallographic genesis of Dalnegorsk minerals never ceases to amaze us!
